National Novel Writing Month

National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo, is a here-goes-nothing approach to novel writing that takes place in November. Registered participants begin on November 1, with the goal of producing a 50,000-word novel by the end of the month. Participants log on to nanowrimo.org and upload daily word counts. Quantity is more important than quality! Editing and rewriting can be done later. The goal is to get the novel all down on paper by November 30. This sink-or-swim approach forces writers to take a risk and start writing. Sara Gruen, author of Water for Elephants, wrote the draft for her book as part of NaNoWriMo.
You can Collaborate with Neil Gaiman on a Story!

Author Neil Gaiman recently teamed with BBC Audiobooks America to produce an interactive creative fiction experimental project using Twitter. Gaiman tweeted the first sentence last week, with the rest left to readers like you to further it along, 140 characters at a time. The result will include a published short story, and an audiobook that BBC will offer as a free download. You can participate or follow Gaiman’s progress at twitter.com/neilhimself.
